A student from Mahasarakham University’s Japanese Language program, Eastern Languages track, earned 2nd Runner-Up at the KIMONO STREET FASHION CONTEST 2024, held on November 23 at J-Park Sriracha Nihon Mura, Chonburi.

Mr. Chiwathan Kamungkhun (model) and Miss Salilla Wisarapand (stylist), both from the Japanese program, showcased a traditional “Kurotomesode” kimono—typically worn by Japanese brides—creatively reimagining the obi (kimono sash) as a stylish, functional handbag.

The students were supported by Associate Professor Kanokwanwalai Inhongsa, who coordinated their participation, and Associate Professor Dr. Vichaya Yoshida, who provided expert guidance on kimono styling.

As part of their prize, the students received scholarships, Japanese language courses from two prestigious institutions, and certificates of recognition. This remarkable achievement not only brings pride to the Japanese Language program but also enhances the reputation of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, cementing Mahasarakham University’s standing in the international cultural community.
