Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Mahasarakham University

The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at Mahasarakham University traces its origins back to the establishment of the “Faculty of Humanitarian Studies and Social Sciences, Mahasarakham College of Education” on Wednesday, March 27, 1968. It was initially under the jurisdiction of the Teacher Training Department, Ministry of Education. Later, on Saturday, June 29, 1974, the institution was upgraded to “Srinakharinwirot University, Mahasarakham Campus” following the enactment of the Srinakharinwirot University Act, B.E. 2517 (1974). As a result, the “Faculty of Humanitarian Studies and Social Sciences” was divided into two separate faculties: the “Faculty of Humanities” and the “Faculty of Social Sciences.”

Subsequently, on Friday, December 9, 1994, the university became independent from Srinakharinwirot University Prasarnmit and was officially established as Mahasarakham University. The “Faculty of Humanities” and the “Faculty of Social Sciences” were then merged to form the “Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.” On Sunday, June 22, 1995, the faculty was formally structured in accordance with the Royal Decree on the Establishment of Government Agencies at Mahasarakham University, B.E. 2538 (1995).

At present, the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences is dedicated to providing education at both undergraduate and graduate levels, ensuring that graduates acquire both theoretical knowledge and practical skills. The faculty actively supports research to create new knowledge, promotes innovative services for local communities, preserves and fosters cultural heritage, and encourages analytical thinking and creative problem-solving skills that enable students to adapt to society.

With its location in a region rich in intellectual traditions, history, and cultural heritage, the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences has developed strong academic expertise that meets societal demands. It fosters collaboration and networking with other organizations to achieve global recognition and contributes significantly to Mahasarakham University’s mission of becoming a leading university in Asia.
